The piano is a ubiquitous instrument in the 21st century, but it did not always look, and sound, as it does today. Like many things, the modern-day piano is the result of centuries of evolution. Its predecessor, the fortepiano, was a lighter model with leather-covered hammers and thin, harpsichord-like strings. It was the instrument of choice for the Classical masters of its time – enduring Viennese composers such as Wolfgang Amadé Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven and Joseph Haydn.

The Blue Earth City Council granted city attorney David Frundt the authority to negotiate the return of the Three Sisters buildings to the city’s ownership on May 6. Two weeks later, the council learned the results of Frundt’s negotiations at a meeting held on Monday, May 20. “The buildings are ours at this point in time,” Frundt reported.

Forty-four United South Central seniors will walk the halls of their high school for the last time on Friday, May 31 – as USC students, at least. That evening, they will gather to don their caps and gowns, receive their diplomas, and say ‘farewell’ to United South Central High School. In the months to come, USC’s Class of 2024 will disperse across the Midwest, or even further in some cases.
