Pomona College’s Destiny Marrufo will be assuming the role of Title IX coordinator and clery officer this spring, retiring her position as assistant director of Campus Advocacy, Resources, Education and Support (CARES). The previous Title IX coordinator, Erica Moorer Taylor, stepped down from her position on Oct. 25, 2023. Following a series of recent administrative changes at Pomona College and Scripps College, the Title IX coordinators at both schools left their roles this month. On Oct. 13, Scripps Title IX Coordinator Sara Miller stepped down from her position. The following week, on Oct. 25, Pomona Title IX Coordinator Erica Moorer Taylor left her role. School administrators announced both changes to the student bodies over email.

Pomona College’s Coop Store permanently lowered its food and beverage prices by 20 percent, Pomona Dean of Students Josh Eisenberg announced on Oct. 10. Coop Store manager Brenda Schmit and the ASPC implemented this price cut to encourage more student consumption on campus. The Coop Store, which operates like a grocery store on one side and sells Pomona merchandise on the other, is run by ASPC. All of the profits go towards the ASPC budget, according to Eisenberg.

On Monday, Aug. 28, Scripps College President Amy Marcus-Newhall announced in an email to the community that the Schuler Initiative will no longer be donating $15 million to the college it had previously promised, due to the state of the financial market. Scripps announced the grant last September, accompanied by a donation-matching campaign within the Scripps community, bringing the cumulative total to $30 million over the next 10 years.

As of Sunday, April 23, nearly 1,000 people from the 5C community have signed a petition for Claremont McKenna College’s Board of Trustees to reconsider their rejection of the proposed Race and Ethnic Studies General Education (GE) Requirement. The petition was initially created by the Racial GE Group, which consists of CMC students and faculty that support the GE requirement denied in October 2022.
