AN ANNAN runner is hoping to climb the highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales within a single day next week. Marie Marshall wants to complete the gruelling Three Peaks challenge in under 24 hours on Thursday, April 24, in order to raise money for Annan Day Centre. And she is undertaking the fundraiser less than two weeks after completing the Boston UK Marathon in Lincolnshire last Sunday. The three mountains in question are Ben Nevis, Scotland, Scafell Pike, England, and Snowdon, Wales.

THE tenth world championship ice hockey tournament to be held at Dumfries Ice Bowl in the past 12 years reached its conclusion earlier this week. The Great Britain women’s team finished third in the International Ice Hockey Federation’s Division One Group B tournament, earning the bronze medal. And it was the Italian national team that cut ‘la bella figura’ on the ice, smartly winning gold, and winning convincingly all five of their matches.

LOCHMABEN Wombles were in action again on Saturday, this time as part of the Keep Scotland Beautiful, Spring Clean 2025 initiative. The turnout was impressive with many new faces helping out, including representatives from Dumfries and Galloway Council and Lochmaben Community Council. The organisers were particularly pleased to have so many young Womble Warriors (under 12s) participating.

CADET Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) from Dumfries and Galloway have received a highly prestigious award for their outstanding service. The ceremony, hosted at the A’ The Airts Community Art Centre in Sanquhar last week, saw sergeant major instructor Carly Moffat and sergeant major instructor William Boyd receive their certificates of meritorious service from the Lord-Lieutenant for Dumfries, Fiona Armstrong.

Filmmakers hope that the story of Jane Haining, who refused to abandon Jewish girls in her care and flee for her personal safety, will powerfully resonate with young people and deepen their understanding of the Holocaust.
