Autologous haematopoietic cell transplantation (auto-HCT) is still considered as the standard of care for newly diagnosed young and fit multiple myeloma (MM) patients. The procedure comprises several key steps: induction, haematopoietic stem cell mobilization, high-dose chemotherapy (melphalan) followed by haematopoietic cell infusion and post-transplant therapy (including maintenance therapy with or without prior consolidation).
