Classical mass spectrometry (MS) of biomolecules requires either isotopic resolution or the separation of charge states for the determination of the molecular charge (z) and mass (m) of an ion. Achieving isotopic resolution at high mass-to-charge (m/z) ratio values on Fourier transform (FT) instruments is challenging due to the inverse relationship between m/z ratio and resolving power.
