Being able to walk away from toxic people is a skill. Too many of us have wasted too much time in life on people who drag us down. It's not up to us to change, fix, or better anyone else... especially if it's at our own expense. I hate to think about the years I spent taking abuse from other people. Or trying to figure out why some people treated me and the world a certain way.

Making life simpler... That is always the goal, right? Modernize this, eliminate that!All so the everyday can be more convenient. How are those plans going? I have to say, some of the advancements in simplicity haven't really done much to delete stress. In fact, some modern assistance has hindered the everyday life quite drastically. Or maybe I'm just being grumpy and nostalgic. Let's take a look at the list.

Brains and smarts. Those two things don't always go together. Just because we have brains doesn't automatically mean everyone knows how to use them. Then there are some people who are wicked smart, and they don't even realize it. Like people who can solve a Rubik's cube... that thing is still the bane of my existence.

Does the truth really set us free? I believe one would like to think so. But the truth can be more than we bargained for. It has the power to ruin everything, especially illusion. Once we know the sordid details behind so much of life's prettier things, we may never be the same. I, for one, am someone who has to know the tea. No matter how scalding.

There are some life events that make you want to shake your head and say, "This wouldn't even seem real in the movies."But it's true, life can be crazier than what any writer could concoct. This can be said about world history. Some of civilization's bloodiest and nuttiest battles sound like a plot out of a bad Netflix series. But if we do some deep diving into the past, we will find outlandish truth beyond our comprehension. It's like watching cop shows and mocking people who spontaneously confess.

Why adults choose to lie or hide things from children is something I'll never understand. Though explicit details and facts aren't always necessary, the basics are reasonable. There are fun lies, like Santa and the Easter Bunny, but then there are lies that are just ridiculous. And it's all for the sole purpose of manipulation. I was fed a few doozies back in my day.

The workplace is a battlefield. It doesn't matter if it's an office or a restaurant. All the characters are at play constantly. And firings are the HEIGHT of drama and entertainment! I've seen co-workers try to burn down the building as they leave. I've seen tables overturned and tears shed. Oh, a dramatic co-worker firing can be legendary. It's especially delicious when people are guilty of their nonsense but they REFUSE to give in. Magic happens.

Marriage proposals are a turning point in a relationship. A new era of life is about to begin. Or... maybe not. In all the excitement and build-up of the thought of marriage, some people dive in with false confidence. Not everybody gets a "Yes" to a proposal. How could a person say "No" to another person in one of their most vulnerable life moments? It happens more than we realize. Sometimes, it still works out.
