On the other end of the spectrum is Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson. His mistakes directly led to a trio of Toronto Maple Leafs goals, and a few more Karlsson turnovers put the Penguins in some bad spots.

Adam Fox is on injured reserve and could be out a while. K’Andre Miller could be sidelined too. Chris Kreider’s missed two games with an upper-body issue and been hampered by a bad back all season. Guess what, New York Rangers? Nobody in the NHL cares about your issues. Sympathy? Yeah, right. Not getting any. Not outside the hand-wringing from a rightfully jittery a fan base, that is. Just look at the teams they’re battling with for a playoff berth in the Eastern Conference.

The New York Rangers reportedly are placing Adam Fox on injured reserve after their star defenseman was hurt in a 5-1 win against the New York Islanders on Tuesday. In a corresponding move, the Rangers recalled defenseman Matthew Robertson from Hartford of the American Hockey League on Wednesday. That the Rangers only recalled one defenseman could be a good sign that K’Andre Miller will not miss any — or any significant — time after he, too, was injured in that game against the Islanders.

Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas will be on the job for two years in June, but the first quarter of his seven-year contract was spent trying in vain to patch a leaky dam and, upon obviously failing that nearly impossible task, setting the table for the next era of Penguins hockey. Time moves quickly.
