Adam Fox is on injured reserve and could be out a while. K’Andre Miller could be sidelined too. Chris Kreider’s missed two games with an upper-body issue and been hampered by a bad back all season. Guess what, New York Rangers? Nobody in the NHL cares about your issues. Sympathy? Yeah, right. Not getting any. Not outside the hand-wringing from a rightfully jittery a fan base, that is. Just look at the teams they’re battling with for a playoff berth in the Eastern Conference.

The New York Rangers reportedly are placing Adam Fox on injured reserve after their star defenseman was hurt in a 5-1 win against the New York Islanders on Tuesday. In a corresponding move, the Rangers recalled defenseman Matthew Robertson from Hartford of the American Hockey League on Wednesday. That the Rangers only recalled one defenseman could be a good sign that K’Andre Miller will not miss any — or any significant — time after he, too, was injured in that game against the Islanders.

PHILADELPHIA — The Pittsburgh Penguins’ game started badly and only got worse. They not only lost but did so embarrassingly to the rival Philadelphia Flyers, 6-1, at Wells Fargo Center Tuesday. There wasn’t a happy soul in the Penguins locker room, nor outside of it, as coach Mike Sullivan ripped the team’s performance. It felt like one team made a positive stride forward in the Eastern Conference playoff race Tuesday night at UBS Arena, and the other fell out of the wild-card chase completely, when the New York Rangers defeated the New York Islanders 5-1. For sure, the game wasn’t as lopsided as the final score indicated. In fact, as Islanders defenseman Ryan Pulock harped on postgame, the hosts did a lot of good things, especially during a strong opening 40 minutes.

PHILADELPHIA — The Pittsburgh Penguins failed to show up for a rivalry game Tuesday. They were outclassed, outplayed, and ultimately embarrassed by a 6-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center. There were exactly zero performances to praise and plenty to criticize. There were also few to absolutely rip. One Penguins defenseman stormed through the hallway following the game, parting arena crew and media members without so much as a glance and certainly no acknowledgment.

Jonny Brodzinski and Urho Vaakanainen each had an NHL career-high three points to power the New York Rangers past the New York Islanders 5-1 on Tuesday at UBS Arena. The win was their second straight and fifth in the past seven games. However, it came with a price. Defenseman K’Andre Miller left the game in the second period with a lower-body injury and Adam Fox sustained an upper-body injury in the third period.
