In October, the Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced the designation of 31 Regional Technology and Innovation Hubs (“Tech Hubs”). Authorized through the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, the Tech Hubs program will make coordinated, place-based investments to advance key national technologies such as artificial intelligence, clean energy, and biotechnology. Originally authorized as a $10 billion program, Tech Hubs only received a $500 million appropriation from Congress.

By mid-August, the Economic Development Administration (EDA) had received 379 applications from 48 states for Phase 1 of its Regional Technology and Innovation Hubs (Tech Hubs) competition, which seeks to boost tech clusters in diverse places and accelerate equitable growth and competitiveness. Now, the agency has announced some winners. This week, the Biden administration designated 31 winning regions that will receive support and possible investment to scale-up their local advanced industries.
