    The team from Streets KitchenSIX-hundred children and young people are currently living in temporary accommodation in Camden, a council meeting heard this week. The equivalent of two primary schools’ worth of children are not living in secure housing in the borough. “And what’s most concerning for us is that number is growing,” Abi Knight, public health consultant at Raise Camden, said at a debate on homelessness and temporary accommodation at a full council meeting last Monday night.

    Tents in Camden GardensSOME homeless people are being banned from sleeping rough in a large area in Camden Town and have been warned their tents and belongings will be removed if they do not leave the area. The order comes two years after the then leader of Camden Council, Georgia Gould, stood up in a public meeting to declare that disposing of rough sleepers’ belongings would not happen again.

Camden Town resident Alison Charlton said she feared “people will die” as a result of Labour’s plan to cut personal independence payments (PIP) She said her brother Angus Beaton’s life changed for the worse when his PIP was axed under the Conservative government. The 69-year-old fell into a life of despair and drug use before his death in 2019.
