It is hard to admit failure — especially if you are a politician. President Joe Biden took the stage at the State Department the other day to tout his foreign policy record. He claimed America is stronger in “every dimension” (diplomatic, military, economic, technological), and our adversaries are weaker. He took credit for deterring China and helping Ukraine stop Putin. He praised his Middle East policy. He claimed the withdrawal from Afghanistan was a success.

One hopes that the incoming Trump administration is prepared to wage bureaucratic wars against the permanent managerial class that runs Washington as presidents come and go. The old saying that personnel is policy is only too true in the swamps of D.C. Presumably, Trump learned that from his first term. He must staff his second term with men and women who have a counterrevolutionary mindset, or else his second term will only accomplish change on the fringes of policy in Washington.

The following bullet points should be nailed to the front door of the Pentagon:The Korean War saved South Korea from communism but was not a military victory. The Vietnam War was a lengthy, humiliating, and costly defeat. We intervened in Somalia and the Balkans for humanitarian reasons with little real success. We fought an “endless” and indecisive war in Iraq. We fought and lost a 20-year war in Afghanistan. We fought an ill-fated Global War on Terror which reduced our influence in the Middle East.

Southern Baptist Jimmy Carter’s funeral was marred by the singing of John Lennon’s “Imagine” at the National Cathedral. Garth Brooks and his wife Trisha Yearwood performed the song at a Christian funeral in a Christian church. Fox News reports that “Imagine” was Carter’s favorite song, and cited a social media message which noted that the song was also played at Rosalyn Carter’s funeral.

In the wake of the debacle known as the Biden presidency, certain media commentators who supported Biden and looked the other way for a time as he declined cognitively in front of their own eyes and ears, now write critical columns about Biden in an apparent effort to regain relevance and trust as the second Trump presidency is about to begin. It won’t work. Their credibility is gone, hopefully forever.
