    IntroductionAfrican swine fever (ASF), caused by the African swine fever virus (ASFV), is a highly contagious and notifiable animal disease in domestic pigs and wild boars, as designated by the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) (1). ASFV is the only member of the Asfivirus genus within the Asfarviridae family and is the sole arthropod-borne DNA virus (2).

    Veterinary infectious diseases significantly undermine the health of livestock, domestic animals and wildlife, and, as potential emerging zoonoses, are of great concern for public health. From the recent SARS-COV2 spreading, we have learned the importance of working with a One-Health perspective. As demonstrated by this pandemic, the impact of increasingly frequent epidemic animal diseases demonstrates the importance and urgency of correct diagnostic processes.
