Behind the table, sitting on a chair was four-time All-American wrestler, Amelia Fawcett. “(They) are three very strong women who passed away, and aren’t able to be with me physically, but they are here with me, and I felt (their presence)” she said. Fawcett is an 18-year-old Alaska Native from Wasilla, Alaska.

The Yurok and Hoopa Valley tribes signed a historic water agreement on Wednesday, April 2, at a ceremony at the confluence of the Klamath and Trinity rivers. According to the Yurok Tribe’s social media post, Tribal leaders agreed to share 50,000 acre-feet of federal water from the Bureau of Reclamation’s Trinity Lake.

Snowpack levels are above average in the Trinity River Basin, according to the Watershed Research and Training Center. Meanwhile, statewide, the snowpack is 90 percent of average for this date and, according to the state’s Department of Water Resources, broad swaths of Southern California remain exceptionally dry and below average for rainfall. The third snow survey was conducted on March 27, 29, and 30. “It was kind of a crazy one,” said Josh Smith.

Based on preliminary results as of Tuesday night, two incumbents and one challenger were in the lead for the three seats open on the Trinity Public Utilities District Board of Directors. According to the county Elections Office, incumbent Alex Cousins was leading with 1,456 votes (21.05%), followed by incumbent Andy Johnson with 1,175 votes (16.99%) and challenger Joe Trindade with 1,019 (14.73%) of votes.

The U.S Justice Department announced more than $86 million in grants for American Indian and Alaska Native communities to support survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking and sex trafficking. It was announced late last month right before the October start of Domestic Violence Awareness month.

California State Senate President pro tempore Mike McGuire surprised students and staff at Trinity High School on Wednesday morning, Oct. 16, announcing the funding of a new $1.5 million all-weather track for the school. Construction is expected to begin next spring.

Seven candidates are running for three seats on the Trinity Public Utilities District Board in the Nov. 5 election. Seeking re-election are incumbents Amanda Barragar, Alex Cousins and Andy Johnson. Challengers are Marilyn Scott Cox, Ryan Crockett, Bill Everest and Joe Trindade. Trinity PUD board members are elected at large, so the top three vote-getters will be in. Each candidate was given an opportunity to be interviewed by The Trinity Journal and asked the same questions.
