UNLIKE so many of my wiser newspaper colleagues, I try not to look forward to seeing Vice President Sara Duterte being tried on impeachment charges by the Senate impeachment court. I simply leave it in the hands of the Supreme Court which has the final say on the matter. The Constitution mandates it, and Sara has declared herself ready and willing to face it, so I cannot see why the Senate leadership has chosen a way of trying to avoid it.

I HAD serious misgivings about the EDSA mass transport system from the very beginning, yet I am not pleased that my worst fears about it have now been confirmed. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s announced decision to undertake a full rehabilitation of the EDSA light rail system confirmed the need for an upgrade after 32 years, but his eventual decision to suspend any rehab for fear of complicating EDSA traffic for at least two years has now become the real problem.

PRESIDENT Bongbong Marcos (BBM) needs a truly functioning Cabinet to help him govern, but we cannot be led into believing that the poor results of the last midterm senatorial election were all due to the middling performance of his Cabinet members, and that he has decided to punish them by asking them to resign. I shall be the first one to say the Cabinet has not always been performing as a real Cabinet, and that is reason enough to junk it even without any grand announcement.
