DiscussionIn this manuscript, we demonstrated the ambiguity in specifying phase for neuroscientific applications. We used simulations from three empirically valid generative models of rhythms and applied three methods to specify phase. Together, these models and methods encompass a wide range of empirical data and methods applied (Bruns, 2004; Ouedraogo et al., 2016; Cole and Voytek, 2017; Donoghue et al., 2020; Wodeyar et al., 2021; Spyropoulos et al., 2022).
