Christophe Clement, one of the top thoroughbred trainers in the United States over the last 34 years, has died. He trained longshot Tonalist to victory in the 2014 Belmont Stakes and won a Breeders' Cup race in 2021. The Paris-born Clement announced his own death in a prepared statement that was posted to his stable's X account on Sunday. It said he had been fighting uveal melanoma. It's a rare type of cancer that affects the uvea, the middle layer of the eye.
