Network Functions (NFs) in edge clouds are required to provide scalability, fault tolerance, and mobility support. They all require maintaining NF states (i.e., processing results), e.g., for recovery, especially for stateful NFs like firewalls. Even though current solutions provide an alternative to storing states in memory, their design can support only a single requirement, either fault tolerance or scaling.

Emerging use cases, such as Tactile Internet, typically demand high reliability and low-latency communication. To fulfill these stringent requirements, 5G networks employ re-transmission within the Radio Access Network (RAN) in the event of packet loss, but at the expense of increased latency. An alternative approach to address this challenge involves leveraging Random Linear Network Coding (RLNC) to recover lost packets, thereby eliminating the necessity for retransmission within the RAN.

Autonomous driving is widely considered as a major use case in 5G and beyond networks. Without human intervention, connected cars have been considered as typical autonomous vehicles that account for various intelligent controls. Specifically, path planning is an essential technology that allows connected cars to search for driving space. We propose to leverage in-network computing and demonstrate its potential to execute path-planning for connected cars.

According to Resolution 235 on the WRC-2015 sharing studies shall be conducted between Programme Making and Special Events (PMSE) and International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) radio systems, to protect PMSE systems against harmful interference from IMT systems. In this work we aim at operating these two systems on a shared frequency, not only at a same time but also in a same space such as an IMT sector cell.
