Originally, the Old English word that has since become our “book” referred to any written text, including legal documents, catalogues, or charters. And rather than a library, English speakers once spoke of a boc-hord, or a “book hoard,” which may be the more accurate term for the less organized among us.

The warmer than normal weather will continue into the weekend. Tonight will be partly cloudy and mild with low temperatures near 50. Tomorrow will be windy and warm ahead of a cold front that will move through tomorrow night. Partly sunny tomorrow with highs in the 70s. The front will bring showers late tomorrow and tomorrow night, then it will clear out for the weekend. Lots of sunshine both Saturday and Sunday with highs in the 60s. It will warm back into the 60s and 70s to start next week.

In 1981, I read a book by the theologian-apologist Francis A. Schaeffer. It was co-written by the man who served at that time as the Surgeon General of the United States, C. Everett Koop. Schaeffer and Koop’s book was entitled “Whatever Happened to the Human Race?” It explored ethics between both ends of human life, conception and natural death. Their thesis was clear: Human life is sacred and is worthy of value and protection.

Cold again tonight, but it will warm up over the weekend. Tonight will be mainly clear and cold with low temperatures in the 20s. Any wet roadways will refreeze again tonight. High pressure will bring nice weather for the weekend, and it will continue to warm up. Plenty of sunshine tomorrow with highs near 50. Sunday will be partly sunny and a little warmer with highs in the 50s. A weak storm system will move through on Monday with a few showers.

Cold weather will continue into the weekend, but it will not be as cold as it has been. Tonight will be partly cloudy and very cold with low temperatures in the 20s. Any wet spots on roadways will refreeze tonight. High pressure will control our weather through the weekend with dry weather and slowly moderating temperatures. Highs tomorrow will make it into the 40s, then the mid to upper 40s on Saturday. The warming will continue Sunday with highs int he 50s.
