    Chinese state-owned automaker SAIC Motor launched the Shangjie new energy vehicle (NEV) brand this week, in partnership with local technology giant Huawei Technologies. SAIC Motor is the latest automaker to join Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance, which also includes the Aito brand developed with Seres Group, the Luxeed with Chery Automobile, Stelato with BAIC Group, and Maextro with Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC).

    Honda Motor Company confirmed this week it will transfer some vehicle production from Japan to the US this year in response to the US government’s recent 25% hike in tariffs on vehicles imported into the country. The Japanese automaker said it plans to shift production of the Civic Hybrid for sale in the US from its plant in Saitama Prefecture in central Japan to its facility in the US state of Indiana by July 2025, as it looks to mitigate the impact of the US tariff hike.

    Renault has shown its Emblème concept demonstration vehicle to create a ‘working prototype of a family car while taking decarbonisation to new levels’. Renault says it is continuing the exploratory studies initiated with the Scenic Vision concept in 2022. Developed by Ampere (Renault’s EV unit), Renault Emblème is a demo car reflecting this approach. A vision of a low-carbon family car, Renault says it emits 90% fewer greenhouse gases (CO2eq) over its entire life cycle than the 2019 baseline.

    Vietnam’s new vehicle market expanded by 8% to 26,079 units in March 2025 from 24,133 units a year earlier, according to wholesale data released by the Vietnam Automotive Manufacturers Association (VAMA). The data do not include sales by Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Tesla, Nissan, domestic automaker VinFast, and a number of Chinese brands that have entered the market in the last two years.
