1 INTRODUCTION The expansion and intensification of global trade and transport have resulted in increasing rates of intra- and intercontinental biotic exchange (Capinha et al., 2023; Hulme, 2021; IPBES, 2023; Seebens et al., 2017). While most established non-native species are currently inconspicuous additions to regional biotas, a sizable minority causes considerable ecological damages (Diagne et al., 2021; Kumschick et al., 2015; Vilà et al., 2011).

3.8 Species invasiveness Analysing the random effects, we can identify the species with the highest invasiveness propensity (i.e., rate of spread across regions after accounting for the influences of covariates). After accounting for the other effects described above, the random invasiveness rate captures the tendency of different species to spread. Table in Appendix presents the top five alien species in each taxonomic group.

Overview of the global data on genome size for taxonomic groups Among angiosperms and gymnosperms with available monoploid genome size data (i.e. genome size of one unreplicated chromosome set), the percentages of invasive species were similar, but gymnosperms had a higher percentage of naturalized species than angiosperms (Table ; Fig. 1).
