The Grangemont Volunteer Fire Protection District was established on July 29,1985. For many years our one military fire truck was stationed at the Grangemont school house during the summer and housed at different locations within the district in barns during the winter. Shortly after moving to Grangemont, my wife April and myself became involved in the fire district in 1993. I was a commissioner and April was secretary/treasurer.

Mere days away from flipping the calendar to November, a quick-hitting winter storm will dump heavy, wind-whipped snow across some of the tallest Western U.S. mountains through midweek. Gusty winds will also be a problem too. A large, digging disturbance at high altitudes of the atmosphere will chug east across the Western U.S. through midweek. An area of low pressure, first in southern Nevada today, will jump to the Colorado Plains and intensify on Tuesday.

The long holiday weekend will kick off the same way the rest of the month has – not missing a beat as a new, potentially dangerous storm outbreak blossoms over the southern Plains. An area of low pressure will develop across the western Kansas High Plains on Saturday afternoon and evening. A fresh southerly breeze ahead of the storm’s cold front will supply the central and southern Plains to western parts of the Middle Mississippi Valley in an unseasonably warm to hot and very humid air mass.

Powerful thunderstorms may rattle much of the Lower Great Lakes to Ohio and Middle Mississippi valleys on Tuesday evening and night. The full gauntlet of severe hazards will be on the weather menu. Low pressure will race from southern Minnesota early in the day to the western shores of Lake Huron by Tuesday night. Unseasonably warm, notably more humid will be tugged northward in the storm’s warm sector throughout the day.

A mid to late week pattern change will usher in plenty of weather headaches across parts of the West. Snow, soaking rain, and gusty winds will be a big part of the storm’s punch. A waterlogged Pacific storm will arrive across northern California and western Oregon early this morning. With this part of the storm budging little, a faucet of Pacific moisture will be directed at many of the same northern California, western Oregon, and western Washington locations for up to 48 hours.

After a calm, warm start to the work week, a seismic weather pattern shift will occur across the Golden State on Wednesday and Thursday. Soaking rain, urban flooding, and heavy mountain snow will be part of the storm’s make up. Soak in the sun’s warm rays on Tuesday will be snatched away by midweek for Californian’s. A large area of low pressure with a deep eastern and central Pacific tropical connection will squeeze oodles of rain and mountain snow out across the state on Wednesday and Thursday.

A waterlogged storm will pack everything from heavy rain to accumulating wet snow from the Gulf Coast to New England through early next week. Drenching rain and thunderstorms will spread northeast from the Florida to the Tennessee Valley, eastern Great Lakes, and Mid-Atlantic this morning. This rainy, stormy weather will cruise off the Carolinas to Florida's Atlantic beaches between late this morning and early tonight.

A menacing multi-day tornado outbreak dotted parts of the nation’s midsection to the southern U.S. at an unusual time of year – beginning January 9, 1975. Forty five tornadoes, $235.5 dollars in 2024 damage, and more than 280 injuries aren’t stats that will forever be forgotten. Part of the “Great Storm of 1975”, the first tornadoes began to form in the storm’s warm, humid air across parts of the Oklahoma and Texas Plains to Louisiana and Arkansas after sunset on January 9th.
