    WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate is voting Monday on whether to confirm former wrestling executive Linda McMahon as the nation’s education chief, a role that would place her atop a department that President Donald Trump has vilified and vowed to dismantle. The Senate is expected to convene at 3 p.m. ET. Watch in the player above. McMahon would face the competing tasks of winding down the Education Department while also escalating efforts to achieve Trump’s agenda.

    Nation Mar 3, 2025 2:13 PM EST Lighter winds Monday helped crews in South Carolina and North Carolina battle wildfires that caused evacuations and threatened hundreds of homes over the weekend. Hundreds of firefighters from across the state managed to keep the massive blaze in Horry County near Myrtle Beach from destroying any homes despite social media videos of orange skies at night and flames engulfing pine trees just yards away. The fire burned 2.5 square miles (6.5 square kilometers).

    ROME (AP) — Pope Francis suffered two new acute respiratory crises Monday and was put back on noninvasive mechanical ventilation, in another setback to his battle to fight pneumonia, the Vatican said. Doctors extracted “copious” amounts of mucus from his lungs during two bronchoscopies, in which a camera-tipped tube is sent down into the airways with a sucker at the tip to suction out fluid.
