In last night's federal budget, Treasurer Jim Chalmers promised three days of subsidised child care will be made available to all families earning less than $533,000, replacing the existing "activity test" for those days of care. Childcare centre owner/operator, Chris Symons, tells Leon Compton on Tasmania Mornings that finding three days of early learning is "nearly impossible" in Tasmania. "There is no path to making that possible. I think the biggest question is around workforce.

A young Solomon Islander has found the perfect outlet for her to voice her passion for climate activism in the Pacific and try to encourage more young people into the space. Azarinnah Stevens will be representing Solomon Islands as Miss Solomon Islands Climate Action Network 2024. “My message across, maybe to my country or to my people is for us to please hold hands together and advocate for climate change,” Ms Stevens said.

A Solomon Islands writer has won an award at the First Nations Writers Festival for his story about a girl from two small islands in his home country that are feeling the impacts of climate change in the Pacific. Titled ‘Lamawa’ the story by Willy Jnr Fafoi takes readers on a journey to the small islands in Solomon Islands and highlights the challenges presented by climate change.

What started as a university assignment in Solomon Islands traditional fishing practices quickly became a passion for one student-turned-graduate. Miriam Arzienta Sulu is a graduate research assistant at Solomon Islands National University and has been researching the traditional knowledge associated with fishing in her country. “Our traditional knowledge they are actually dying, and if you look into more you will notice that some of our traditional fishing has been lost,” Ms Miriam said.
