Using phase-resolved vibrational sum-frequency imaging to probe the impact of head-group functionality on hierarchical domain structure in lipid membranes† The substantial diversity in phospholipids within a plasma membrane, varying in tail length, degree of saturation, and head-group functionality, generates widespread structural heterogeneity.

Optical manipulation of magnetism holds promise for future ultrafast spintronics, especially with lanthanides and their huge, localized magnetic moments. These 4f moments interact indirectly by spin polarizing the conduction electrons (the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida exchange interaction), influenced by interatomic orbital overlap, and the conduction electron's susceptibility around the Fermi level.

Typically, these parameters carry a non-negligible uncertainty or variability.

In a first step, we evaluated the correction matrix β(x,z) for the FJ at 100% relative humidity as to turn off evaporative cooling in order to solely detect the effect of background temperature. In Fig. 2(a), we depict the influence of Tbg, for measurements at 19 °C, 26 °C (room temperature), and 40 °C, on the recorded apparent temperature of the FJ, Tcam. The leaf appears to be warmer if the background is warmer.
