Three mosquito species were investigated for their potential MAYV vector competence. Anopheles atroparvus (strain Ebre delta) was originally collected in Catalonia, Spain in 2020 [30]; Cx. pipiens was repeatedly collected in Antwerp, Belgium during summer 2020 [31]; and Ae. albopictus was collected in Terni, Italy, in 2021 [32]. Following field collections, laboratory colonies were established at the Merian Insectarium of the Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp (Belgium).

TE protein expression is the first stage for transposition, but organisms developed defenses to control it. The intensity of regulatory mechanisms can vary among tissues, and in response to stress, it may facilitate TE activation across different species.
