Media like James Bond and Mission Impossible deliver a sleek, action-packed adventure in the spy genre. However, what many would consider the best spy material does things differently. Instead, more thought-provoking spy-fare focuses on the process and tradecraft. Films like Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy, and A Most Wanted Man are better examples of spy media filled with depth. Being a fan of that material myself made The Agency a thoroughly entertaining and thoughtful piece of spy entertainment.

The culture constantly compares itself, making it hard for the younger generation to grow without feeling bad about themselves. Such a methodology has made it prime real estate for Hollywood to satirize the growing digital age.

HBO’s The White Lotus proved a revelation upon its release in 2021. The results of seasons one and two delivered one of the most entertaining series in recent memory. Show creator and writer Mike White struck a seamless balance, providing a sharp satire and critique of the rich. Not only did he make a show with things to say, but never made it feel like homework. Over two seasons, he created something thought-provoking, incredibly funny, and highly entertaining.

The Sundance Film Festival is a home for independent cinema. It’s somewhere for creatives and filmmakers to express themselves through obscure art. Being so obscure can lead to many films garnering a pulverizing response. It can sometimes lead films down the awards show circuit, like 2022’s best picture winner, Coda, and 2025’s two-time Oscar nominee, A Real Pain. Both films premiered at Sundance without any expectations of Oscar gold.

Of the three plus years of the virtual Sundance I have attended, 2025’s felt like the weirdest yet. The films had varying qualities of success, varying from good middling to downright bad. As the festival progressed, I began to think this was the weakest year yet. That is until I saw what was quickly my favorite title amongst Sundance this year.
