Only four times in the 108-year history of the Indy 500 has the race been decided with a pass for the lead on the final lap. After Sunday’s stop-and-start, delayed-four-hours race, two of those wins belong to Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden. Dueling with Pato O’Ward of Arrow McLaren, the Nashville native found himself behind the young Mexican driver with just two turns to go on Lap 200.

It’s race day for the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500, and approximately 345,000 fans are expected to fill the grandstands and infield at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Scott McLaughlin will lead the field to green (scheduled for 12:45 p.m. local time), followed by Team Penske teammates Will Power and Josef Newgarden. Storms are expected to hit the Indianapolis area around 1:00, which could delay the start of the race and some pre-race festivities.

Fueled by a NASCAR superstar, record-setting speeds, and a battle between a teenager and a veteran of the sport for the final spot in the race, NBC’s coverage of the second day of Indianapolis 500 qualifying recieved a TAD (Total Audience Delivery) of 1.22 million viewers across the linear broadcast and its streaming service, Peacock. That number is a 38% increase from the same event last year, which clocked a TAD of 842,000 viewers.

After a tumultuous month of May, Dale Coyne Racing rookie Nolan Siegel has been bumped from the Indy 500 field. Siegel, who is running four races in the No. 18 for Coyne while running full-time in Indy NXT with HMD Motorsports, spun and hit the Turn 2 wall during his final qualifying attempt and will not take part in next Sunday’s race. The rookie was bested by Katherine Legge, Marcus Ericsson, and Graham Rahal, who will start next Sunday’s Indy 500 31st, 32nd, and 33rd respectively.

The California native’s first lap was ran at a speed of 232.719 miles per hour, with a small amount of speed lost between that and his second lap at 232.318.

The first week of Indy 500 practice is in the books, and that means qualifying is here. All cars received an extra 100 horsepower boost on Friday in order to prepare for the first day of qualifying. Some handled it better than others, with the Chevrolet teams finding themselves with more speed than those running Honda engines. Last year’s race winner Josef Newgarden proved fastest over a four-lap qualifying simulation, going an average of 234.260 miles per hour in his mid-day run.

Another day of practice for the 108th Running of the Indy 500 is in the books, and it was yet another day interrupted by rain. However, before the drops started to come down, teams got about six hours of green flag action, the most of any of the three practice days so far. Arrow McLaren’s Pato O’Ward posted the fastest overall speed of the day at 228.861 miles per hour, which is the third-fastest lap of any practice session.
