The Irish Independent reportedyesterday that the group “regretted” allowing the interview to take place at the Freemasons’ Hall on Molesworth Street in Dublin. In an email from the Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Freemasons of Ireland Philip Daley, members were told that the organisation said they would have not accepted a booking from a US media group if they knew it was being used for the interview.

The Cabinet finally approved the Fáilte Ireland register for short-term lets, which will kick in from May 2026. But a clash between Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael last week meant proposals from Tourism Minister Peter Burke were pushed back another week after Housing Minister James Browne raised concerns at Cabinet. The only changes to the plans signed off at Cabinet today state the Department of Housing will draft amendments for new planning rules for Airbnbs.

Integration Minister Norma Foley said the rapid-build programme is not finished, “so it is not possible to fully specify a final overall programme figure”. In 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine, €29m was spent on modular housing for refugees. In 2023 the figure was €158.7m, and €66m was spent last year. Building the homes is being overseen by the Office of Public Works (OPW) and the Department of Integration.
