Cat lovers in Singapore, rejoice! You’ll be able to keep up to 2 cats in your Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat from 1 Sep 2024. This reverses a 35-year ban, one that many people did not even know existed. But here’s the caveat: owners will have to microchip and license their felines. This is to improve traceability to safeguard public and animal health, said the Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) under the National Parks Board (NParks) in a press release.

Last year, sea surface temperatures and the energy in the upper 2,000 metres of the ocean both hit record highs, according to a recent study in the journal Advances in Atmospheric Sciences. In 2023, the oceans soaked up around 9 to 15 zettajoules more heat energy than in 2022, which is enough to boil 2.3 billion Olympic-sized swimming pools, said the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Chinese Institute of Atmospheric Physics.
