The Villa Grove School Board held a public hearing Feb. 26 regarding the intent to sell $800,000 in general obligation bonds. These bonds would be put toward the new window project and would be paid using the 1 percent county sales tax rather than property taxes. By Gabriella Agius For the first time since Principal Bobby Beck has been at the district, the Villa Grove school district has been designated targeted status based on the State Report Card. This happens as a result of looking at all areas the Report Card covers. The district was targeted for one or more of their student groups that was performing at or below the level of all students. The gap was large enough to warrant the targeted status.

By Gabriella Agius “There’s a couple of really bright spots to the start of this year,” said Superintendent Carol Munson. The school district received the Healthy Meal Incentives Grant as well as the Teacher Vacancy Grant during the Villa Grove School Board meeting on Aug. 21. The Healthy Meals Incentives Grant is provided by the USDA. This grant allowed the district to receive a new oven and refrigerator. A salad bar is also on its way.
