Incidents of abuse perpetrated against Muslims in Australia more than doubled between January 2023 and November 2024, according to a new report by the Islamophobia Register of Australia. The report, compiled by researchers from Monash and Deakin universities, found Muslim women and girls were targeted in 60 per cent of physical assaults, 79 per cent of verbal assaults and all spitting incidents — almost all of which were committed by men.

TikTok users in the United States have been locked out of the popular social media app as a ban takes effect — but the lockout might not last long. The app was also not available for download on the Google and Apple app stores. The ban comes after the US Supreme Court on Friday upheld a law banning the app — which has 170 million American users — which Congress passed Congress with strong bipartisan support last year.

Popular video-sharing app TikTok has warned it will "go dark" in the United States unless the government steps in before a looming ban. It comes after the US Supreme Court on Friday which passed last year after finding strong bipartisan support among Democrats and Republicans. Many politicians and officials who supported the ban had , citing TikTok's ties to China through its parent company ByteDance.

NSW Police is investigating anti-Arab graffiti scrawled on the wall of a corner store in Sydney's south-west. The words "F**k Arabs" were tagged on Wiley Park's Al Eman Supermarket, which stocks many traditional Lebanese items, above the words "Israel > Palestine". Islam is the largest broad group religion in the suburb, according to the 2021 Census, which has a prominent Lebanese community.

Doors have been locked, desperate people at risk of homelessness turned away and phone calls left unanswered, as frontline homelessness services reach capacity across the country. That's the finding of a new report which has found the number of Australians at risk of homelessness has surged 63 per cent to three million, with Victorians overwhelmingly contributing to that number.
