India is exploring the option of replacing mobile subscriber identity modules (SIMs) after a security concern was raised by the country's top cybersecurity agency, the National Cyber Security Coordinator (NCSC) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), according to media reports. The security agency has discovered that some of the chipsets used in SIMs were of Chinese origin.

The Indian government is now the largest stakeholder in the country's third-largest private telco. The Indian government has again come to the rescue of the struggling Vodafone Idea, India's third-largest service provider. It will be converting an additional INR369.5 billion ($4.32 billion) of Vodafone Idea's dues into equity. According to the exchange filing, the government will purchase 36.95 billion equity shares with a face value of INR10 per share.

Launch of Vodafone Idea's 5G services in Mumbai is likely to increase market competition. India's third-largest service provider, Vodafone Idea, has announced the launch of 5G services in Mumbai, the financial capital of the country. This comes two and a half years after its competitors, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, launched 5G in October 2022. According to media reports, Vodafone Idea plans to make 5G available to its subscribers in Delhi, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Patna and Mysore by next month.
