Dearest Gentle Reader, much to my surprise (and others), The Dratsie Dilemma released December 1, 2024. Here are some special extras for this book!Trick gets his own story at last!Thank you so much for your patience, I hope you find that this one was worth the wait. (As Sato definitely feels about Trick.) I give you some fun new characters plus, of course, the return of old favorites. Everyone loves Trick so much and is so protective of him.

Once upon a time, Trick went up against the sea and lost. Badly. Or so he thought. What the sea decides to keep, it keeps forever. Trick is a dratsie shifter, a river otter. He is charming, loads of fun, and a little bit slippery. He’s running from a past he can’t forget and he’s landed unexpectedly in the chaotic comforting embrace of a small town cafe and the world’s queerest pack of werewolves. Unfortunately, it turns out the past has also refused to forget Trick.

My favorite read in 2024 T.M. Baumgartner is my favorite cozy fantasy writer and this new series starting with Theoretical Magic was another lovely addition to my library. Theoretical Magic was fast-paced urban fantasy with characters I really loved. The plot is solid, fraught with danger and kept me guessing. The character growth and world-building were excellent. It's twisty, fun and has those great touches of humor.

You’ve described steampunk as more of a style or a lens than a genre. Could you tell us what makes something steampunk? I identified three things when I did my PhD work. There’s technofantasy, which is gadgets and technology that look like science but work like magic. There’s retrofuturism – not necessarily how the past imagined the future, but how a reimagined past imagined the future.
