    The use of AI in accounting is welcomed by more than 80% of those who work in the sector, according to a new report. A new Chartered Accountants Worldwide (CAW) report found 85% of respondents expressing willingness to use AI tools - and 91% of those aged 18–24 are already using the technology. Members of Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI) were surveyed alongside respondents from 13 other Chartered bodies around the world.

    The number of complaints made to the Food Safety Authority in 2024 increased by just over 13%. In total 8,596 complaints and queries were handled by the FSAI Advice Line last year. The FSAI revealed there were 4,996 complaints from consumers, with 32% of complaints relating to unfit food and 29% to suspected food poisoning. Overall, the 4,996 consumer complaints in 2024 represented a 13.7% increase compared to the previous year with 4,395 complaints.

    Thousands of SMEs are set to benefit after Shikawa Technologies agreed to invest in the Big Red Cloud Group. Shikawa Technologies is a private equity investor in software backed by Melior Equity Partners. It is the seventh investment from Melior Equity Partners Fund II, which is backed by a pool of local and international blue-chip investors, including The Carlyle Group, the European Investment Fund, Ireland Strategic Investment Fund, Bank of Ireland and AIB.

    AIB is to offer up to ten days of foster leave to all employees looking to foster. And the bank said it is introducing up to 12 weeks of neonatal leave for all parents of newborns that have to spend time in hospital. Employees can take this leave in weekly blocks for each week their baby receives neonatal care, up to a maximum of 12 weeks.
