Sinn Fein Councillor Helen Meyer has criticised the delay in providing 12 units of accommodation for Meath Women’s Refuge. She told a meeting of Meath County Council that a delivery date for the units was the last quarter of 2026 and she wondered why it was taking so long. “It’s clear that there is a crisis right now with violence against women. There’s barely a day goes by now where we don’t wake up to hear thatanother woman has been murdered”.

The chief executive of Meath County Council has refused to commission legal advice on whether the council is in breach of the Equal Status Act by refusing to accept a homeless person’s address registered through a post office when the person is applying for accommodation. Independent Cllr Alan Lawes raised the issue at a county council meeting, saying that in his opinion the council was being discriminatory and in breach of the equal status legislation.

A call for action on the inspection of private rental premises providing emergency accommodation was made at a meeting of Meath County Council by a Fine Gael councillor. Alan Tobin raised the issue at the February meeting of the council. Report Paul MurphyHouseholders and landowners have been warned by a councillor that fallen trees are no longer seen as “an act of God” by insurance companies. Cllr Brian Fitzgerald was speaking during a Meath County Council debate on the aftermath of the recent storm. He said that many people did not know about the new policy adopted by the companies.
