Before you read this column, I need to put a disclaimer: this piece contains an opinion that is likely to be unpopular. So, let’s get to it. The Proteas have been celebrated for winning the ICC Test final against Australia, and rightly so. The hard-fought victory against the Aussies was built on courage, determination and talent. Aiden Markram arguably played the best innings of his career. Temba Bavuma bravely continued batting, despite his injury, and proved many doubters wrong.

My wife and I love going to the Kruger National Park, but neither of us owns a car suited to that sort of trip. So, when we were offered a Ford Territory, we jumped at the opportunity. The Ford Territory SUV in Titanium guise was a far better option than my old Kia Picanto. When my wife goes to Kruger, she likes to take half of our household items with her. Despite this, the Territory had more than enough room for our bags, cooler boxes and other miscellaneous items.

Defence Minister Angie Motshekga on Sunday said the withdrawal of South African National Defence Force (SANDF) troops from the Democratic Republic of Congo has begun. She said the withdrawal comes as the region has seen “renewed momentum” towards achieving peace in the past four months. Despite the withdrawal of its soldiers, Motshekga said “South Africa remains committed to a peaceful, stable and prosperous DRC”.
