For those out there of a sci-fi persuasion, this is the eternal struggle between good and evil throughout many Star Wars films. However, many employers are faced with a similar struggle - though maybe not quite of galaxy-defining proportions. Organisations must decide what the new normal looks like for them post-Covid, and whether this is working from home, hybrid working, or a complete return to the office. In January 2022 the Government’s guidance to work from home ended.

GARETH STEVENS meets Suman Joshi, the mastermind behind Eparapo’s stunning new album. Suman Joshi, whose bass playing is very much in demand by a number of African and Latin bands in London, has truly surpassed himself with the recent album release Take to the Streets with his band Eparapo. In Yoruba, the word Eparapo means ‘to come together’ or ‘to join forces’. As well as playing bass, keyboards and guitars, Joshi composed, arranged and produced the whole album.

The fact that I both love it and detest it in equal measure is an example of cognitive dissonance at its purest. I follow multiple Instagram accounts of abstract painters and have abstract art on my walls at home and yet, intellectually, it is a vapid, self-indulgent idiom that is overly esoteric and essentially bourgeois.

The great American philosopher, psychologist, and educational reformer John Dewey once said that “Democracy has to be born anew every generation, and education is its midwife.” Like him, I believe schooling is truly that important. We’ve all been to school and may now have our own children who we surrender to some state institution or other for a huge portion of their critical and formative young lives.
