About make New Year’s resolutions every year, many focused on money — specifically commitments to making or saving more of it. But for the segment of the population that already has a lot of money, we’d like to suggest a different approach in 2025: resolve not to get richer. This isn’t another “eat the rich” rant, but rather a practical suggestion that many wealthy people we know adhere to and who feel it has enriched their lives in non-monetary ways.

Over nine months into the violence that has been ransacking the lives of Palestinians, efforts to help are coming from all corners of the globe. As news outlets and social media feeds are flooded with endless images of violence against children, some in the Global North have expressed a desire to adopt Palestinian children to give them a chance at a better life. This isn’t the first time that citizens in the Global North have wanted to adopt children from a specific crisis zone.

When we last wrote about White men’s participation in racial justice work for NPQ in October 2023, we described how nine White men participating in the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington, wearing shirts that read “White Men for Racial Justice,” was novel enough to spark curiosity and enthusiasm from fellow marchers. This summer, progressive White male organizing has attracted far more than nine people.

At the recent sixtieth anniversary of the March on Washington, nine White men, two of whom were us, wore black t-shirts emblazoned with big white bold letters that read, “White Men for Racial Justice.”White men [can] flip the narrative of White supremacy by refusing to go along with it or accept its power over us. Fellow marchers were largely stunned.

During the past few years, as part of an ongoing effort to clarify my role in the social justice movement, I’ve asked hundreds of people in the field how straight, able bodied, private school educated white men like me can have the greatest impact. While I got some helpful guidance, most weren’t sure how I should contribute. Some people suggested I stay on the sidelines. Others advised that I write a check and then get out of the way.
