There’s only one person on this planet whose productivity rivals Taylor Swift’s. Ali Hazelwood, best-selling author of The Love Hypothesis, Deep End, and more, released her second of three (!!!) books in 2025, Problematic Summer Romance. Known for her series of STEM novels, Hazelwood’s Problematic Summer Romance drew attention after its announcement unceremoniously leaked earlier this year.

I worked at Nordstrom in college, and while retail was brutal, chatting with the other girls on the floor shaped my beauty routine. One day, we were all complaining about shaving (and the razor burn that often comes with it) when a coworker raved about European Wax Center—barely any pain, slower regrowth, and “the best money she’d ever spent.” As broke 20-year-olds, those were some big words. I booked an appointment at the nearby EWC and never looked back.

It happens time and time again: a book gets wildly popular, a million and one similar books come out for the readers left wanting more, and then the genre gets tired. It happened with Twilight and The Hunger Games when we were kids. A Court of Thorns and Roses gave rise to the popularity and subsequent overexposure of sexy, mysterious fae. And Fourth Wing spawned a horde of dragon books. I’ve been caught in this cycle and, at a certain point, have become desperate for a way out.

I am no stranger to hype trains. Listening to the new Taylor album and nothing but the new Taylor album? Sign me up. Oh, we’re seeing Sinners in theaters again? Great, snag me a ticket too. I’m not afraid to be like other girls. But when it comes to books, I am always a little wary when readers start throwing around big-name comparisons for new titles. Is this new romance author really as good as Emily Henry? Is that new romantasy series really the next ACOTAR?

The Met Gala is always one of my favorite nights of the year. I love seeing how fashion’s biggest names interpret each year’s theme and watching looks that will go down in history walk up the steps in real time. Some looks live rent-free in my mind years later (Gigi Hadid’s stained-glass inspired gown from 2018 and Blake Lively’s Statue of Liberty dress in 2022 come to mind). For the most part, Met Gala Mondays have been all fun and games for me.

BABEL is the best book I’ve read in a long time and I think everyone should read it, whether or not they consider themselves fantasy readers. @kuangrf thank you for this incredible book! https://t.co/zdUmKhQnzM
