Councillor Charlie Hodge is hoping the new Parkinson Recreation Centre (PRC) will be a legacy for the city. At Monday’s (Apr. 14) meeting, his first in several weeks after being sidelined by a fall, Hodge joined his colleagues in praising staff for bringing the $242 million project to the construction ready stage. “I think that this is going to be a place where people will want to go for years to come,” he said.

Construction work starts Monday, April 14 to replace the 75-year-old KLO Bridge and improve a nearby roundabout. The work is taking place between Leader and Hall roads. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained along KLO Rd. across the old bridge while the new bridge is constructed upstream. Single-lane alternating traffic will be required at times, and intermittent closures of the Mission Greenway may also be required.

Hudson Road in West Kelowna, between Guidi and Concord Roads, will be closed on Thursday, April 10 for asphalt repair work. The repair, which is needed following a watermain break in February, will close the road from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Transit service will be detoured during the closure, resulting in delays on the Lakeview 20 and Bear Creek 29 routes. Crews will work with affected property owners to facilitate driveway access during the construction.

Kelowna Gymnastixs athletes had a fantastic showing this past weekend (April 5-6) at the 2025 BC Trampoline and Gymnastics Provincial Championships. The event, at the North Surrey Sport Ice Complex, featured 14 clubs, and 222 athletes. Head coach Emily Ive was thrilled with the Kelowna team’s performance. “Our team showed great strength at provincials with supporting both their teammates, and other competitors throughout the competition on and off the floor”.

There was a tense exchange at Kelowna council's April 7 meeting when Councillor Ron Cannan asked Mayor Tom Dyas for an apology following a disagreement over the city's code of conduct. Leading up to the exchange, Mayor Dyas addressed recent media stories that he said, "blatantly and incorrectly claimed" he was trying to impose a gag order on council.
