A Maricopa County jury could not agree on a verdict in the child-sex trial of a former state senator. The court declared a mistrial Tuesday and Tony Navarrete, who could have potentially gone to prison for the rest of his life, walked out a free man. It is unknown if the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office will try him again. A grand jury indicted Navarrete in 2021 on seven offenses in connection with alleged sexual encounters with two relatives.
