Pet food giant Ziwi is cutting jobs as part of a restructure, including in its main region of Hawke’s Bay. Ziwi operates the largest pet food factory in the country at Awatoto, on the outskirts of Napier, as well as other facilities and offices around the country – employing hundreds of staff. Its $100 million Awatoto super kitchen featured in a Hawke’s Bay Today story earlier this week as it was undergoing “production slowdowns” due to a drop in global demand.

A bone discovered at a work site near Hastings suspected of being human has now been confirmed as coming from an animal. Police were called to a work site in Twyford on March 27 after a “singular bone” was discovered. Police collected the bone and investigation staff worked to detemine whether it was a human bone. The Ziwi super kitchen on the outskirts of Napier. Photo / ZiwiPet food giant Ziwi has “opted for production slowdowns” at its super kitchen in Napier - the largest pet food factory in the country. The move to reduce production is in response to a global drop in demand as well as other factors. The company says no staff have lost jobs at the sprawling facility at this stage, and almost 170 staff are based at the super kitchen. However, staffing hours have been impacted.

Tararua District Council issued its updated notices to impacted Dannevirke building owners during February and March. “Building owners now have until their new deadline to either complete the required strengthening work on their buildings or, if that’s not possible, to have the buildings removed,” a Tararua District Council spokeswoman said. Impacted building owners have between 2034 and 2043 to complete strengthening work (depending on their building).
