    A large logging machine has been toppled over a cliff in an apparent act of vandalism against a Hawke’s Bay logging company that went bust. Video footage of the incident has been circulated on social media and is being investigated by police. A hapū group has condemned the incident, and says it is concerned oil or diesel from the skidder will damage the Waiau River.

Floodwaters reached the piles under his Tangoio home but “didn’t even get up to the doorstep” during the February 2023 floods, with water only getting inside his sheds.

However, there is a catch. Any potential new operator would have to cover the costs of developing the council-owned facility or fixing the tired pools. Hastings District Council (HDC) is not willing to sink money into its repair or development.

Photo / SuppliedCalls are growing for a free Hawke’s Bay campsite that is part of “the best river trip in the North Island” to be reopened. But the Department of Conservation (DoC) says the cost to reopen Glenfalls Campsite is prohibitive. Glenfalls Campsite is located next to the Mohaka River between Napier and Taupō, with relatively easy access off State Highway 5.
