Photo / SuppliedTributes are flowing for a rising Napier rugby star who was “the heart and soul of every team” he played for, as police continue to investigate his death and appeal for information. Kaea Karauria, 15, was found critically injured at an Alexander Ave property in the Napier suburb of Onekawa about 3am on Sunday. Despite all efforts by ambulance staff, he died at the scene.

He was a student at Napier Boys’ High School. Police have launched a homicide investigation into the incident and are appealing for information from the public. Kaea was found critically injured at an Alexander Ave property in the Napier suburb of Onekawa about 3am.

Photo / Ian CooperThe future of the Napier-Wairoa train line remains uncertain, with a decision yet to be made on whether to reinstate or officially mothball the track. The 115km train line was badly damaged during Cyclone Gabrielle in February 2023. It has been out of action since. The track carried about one logging train a day when it was open.
