He was elected to the board in November, and his fellow trustees elected him board president when the new Board of Trustees was sworn into office following the election.

Fellow trustees elected Castro president of the Brownsville Independent School District Board of Trustees after his election to the board for a second time in November. He died from pancreatic cancer early Saturday morning, his family and the BISD board announced via Facebook.
