    DESMOND College in Newcastle West will be bringing a great mix of projects to the BT Young Scientist competition this year. Staff at Desmond College are exceptionally proud of all groups’ efforts. Teacher Donal Ryan, overseeing this year's BT Young Scientist groups said: “I'm proud of all them, they're all working very, very hard. Desmond's senior students, Emma Greaney and Madison Brouder, in 5th year, have developed a solution for trailer sway on Irish roads.

    SAINT John the Baptist Community school in Hospital has one group project featuring in this year’s BT Young Scientist Exhibition under the health and wellbeing category. The students from the county Limerick school are conducting research into the correlation between sports and mental health.

    IAN Gilvarry is a 22-year-old athlete with autism who, every year, has been raising hundreds of euro for Limerick City Special Olympics. Ian accepts donations of copper coins throughout the year and by Christmas presents the money to his club. On Sunday, December 17 Ian presented €870 at Limerick City Special Olympics' annual Christmas party. Ian has autism and plays basketball and swims for Limerick City Special Olympics.

    LIMERICK boxer Lee Reeves has described his time on a BBC reality TV show as “one of the most difficult, yet rewarding” times of his life. The overall winner of the BBC Survivor UK was crowned last weekend - Matthew Haywood. The show saw a group of contestants, referred to as castaways, marooned on an island where they must provide for themselves while competing in challenges for rewards and immunity from elimination.

    CASTLEMAHON will come alight on December 27 as part of Castlemahon Development Group's Light up the Sky event in aid of Down Syndrome Limerick. After a successful debut last year, Light up the Sky returns to brighten the Christmas season with a magnificent display of illuminated tractors, trailers, and vintage cars, all in celebration of community and family fun, whilst in support of local charity Down Syndrome Limerick. All starts at 3pm.
