DICKINSON — It’s best to be hitting stride heading into the postseason, and the Dickinson High School girls track and field team did just that with a 107-point finish and a victory in the Last Chance Meet at the Biesiot Activities Center on Monday, May 12, 2025. The boys placed fifth with 65.5 points, earning several state-qualifying spots along the way. Mandan, Bismarck Century, Bismarck High and Watford City finished ahead of the DHS boys, while the girls edged Mandan by just six points.

DICKINSON — After a truncated beginning to the 2025 North Dakota prep track & field season — due to inclement weather and a few minor snags — the last 10 days have seen an unbelievable number of local meets as the athletes and teams attempt to qualify for the Class A and B state finals from May 22-24, while also turning in their repetitions and round out their stamina and endurance with all eyes set towards the form and technique necessary to excel and progress.

DICKINSON — More and more athletes are joining Dickinson State University teams across multiple sports — on the court, track and field, and even the diamond. Grant County/Mott-Regent standout Samantha Greff could be the latest to do it all. Greff earned a scholarship to play basketball at DSU but is also excelling in track and field, and she’s keeping that door open for her collegiate career. Greff played a key role in the Jaguars’ recent run to the North Dakota Class B State Basketball Tournament.

DICKINSON — Heart River is currently dominating the Class B diamond, so Handsome Rob & Gaylon asked Cougar head softball coach Emily Henson and catcher Abby Conery if they could join them — and bring along head baseball coach Kurt Silbernagel while they were at it. The three break down the very successful seasons for Heart River sports as the playoffs are just around the corner for both teams.

BISMARCK — Nothing cures a rough start like a winning streak, and the Heart River Cougars are proving that with a run of impressive performances, including a road sweep of Shiloh Christian on Tuesday, May 6. After splitting with the Skyhawks on April 17 in Belfield, the Cougars claimed both games of the doubleheader this time around, winning 8-2 in the opener and 9-3 in the nightcap. Senior righthander Mason Kessel was dominant on the mound in game one, striking out seven batters.

DICKINSON — While area teams are sprinting to the "finish-line" of the 2025 North Dakota prep track & field season, a trio of meets set the table for an abundance of state-qualifying performances in the rounds at Bowman County, Killdeer High School and Watford City, as every squad was in action trying to get into shape and raise the bar in everything from the 100m dash to the pole-vault.

DICKINSON — As the regular season winds down, the Heart River Cougars baseball and softball teams continue to impress. The baseball squad is riding a five-game winning streak, while the softball team has won seven of their last eight contests. Over the weekend, the Cougars went 3-for-4 in the win column, with the softball team splitting a pair of games and the baseball team sweeping Kidder County at home on Saturday, May 3, with dominant wins of 16-6 and 9-2.

DICKINSON — The track and field season is approaching its final stretch, and area athletes are hitting their stride. Recent events included the prestigious Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls, S.D., held May 2–3, as well as the Trinity Booster Meet hosted at Dickinson State’s Biesiot Activities Center. Dickinson High School athletes also competed in Sioux Falls and will travel to the Watford City Invite on Tuesday, May 6.

WASHBURN, N.D. — The first day of May turned out to be a winning one for Heart River, as the Cougars swept a road doubleheader against Washburn/Wilton/Center-Stanton — a team that entered the day 9-3-1 and had beaten the Cougars 2-0 on April 15, followed by a 6-6 tie in the nightcap. Thursday’s matchup leaned heavily in Heart River’s favor, with the visitors taking a 7-4 win in the opener and following up with a 7-3 victory in game two.
