Centipedes originated in the ancient supercontinent Gondwana and evolved in southern India before crawling their way into Australia and then to the rest of the world, a study by researchers at the CSIR-Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology in Hyderabad reveals1. One of the authors of the paper, Jahnavi Joshi, explains that they found about 10 new species of the centipedes Scutigeromorpha had originated in peninusular India, where previously only two species had been reported.
