Patients of leading Australian IVF provider Genea say they have been left in the dark with some yet to receive communication from the company that there had been a data breach. Other angry patients have spent days trying to contact Genea with urgent clinical enquiries. At least one patient was told the disruption to communication meant their fertility testing couldn't be completed this month.

Four in five Australian women have experienced problematic periods in the last five years, according to a new study. The resulting economic burden is estimated to be about $14 billion a year. Jean Hailes for Women's Health has recommended a review of the economic impact to develop an evidence informed equitable workplace policy in Australia. Periods can be difficult and painful for many but fresh data shows a substantial number of women experience debilitating menstrual symptoms.

Global health leaders have proposed a “dramatic overhaul” of the way doctors look at obesity, publishing new guidelines that split the definition into two distinct categories — clinical obesity and pre-clinical obesity. The proposed changes, announced today, have been five years in the making and aim to reframe obesity by moving beyond Body Mass Index (BMI) calculations.
