Experts from across the UK have called on the government to do more to address the growing problem of hoarding. Approximately four million people in the UK are affected by hoarding, either by being an individual who hoards items, being a member of their family or by working in a profession where they are called on to support people with hoarding behaviours.

A new project to strengthen collaboration between universities and businesses and others to drive growth and create jobs in North East England has received major funding from the UK Government. The North East Strategic Commercialisation project, a five-year programme involving Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside universities and other partners, has been awarded £8.9 million from Research England.

Pope Francis, who died on Monday after suffering a stroke and cardiac arrest, will be laid to rest this weekend. Tens of thousands of worshippers have been waiting in line to see the late pontiff as he lies in state in St Peter's Basilica. The funeral of Pope Francis will take place at 9am (10am local time) on Saturday in the square in front of St Peter's Basilica, the Vatican has announced.

The 88-year-old Argentine pontiff will lie in state until his funeral to allow Catholics from across the world to pay their respects in person. Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the Vatican's Camerlengo, or chamberlain, will then preside over the rite of the sealing of the pope's coffin on Friday evening.

Northumbria University has been ranked top in the North East for graduate business start-ups based on estimated turnover, according to the latest Higher Education Business and Communities Interaction (HEBCIS) survey. And by placing fourth in the UK for the academic year 2023/24, Northumbria has now been in the top 10 nationally for graduate enterprises in each of the past 16 years under this metric.
