WE cruised to a halt, mooring on the River Scheldt close to Antwerp’s bustling main square. The smell of cheesy tartiflette and sweet waffles hung in the air while the towering, gilded cathedral glittered against the evening sky. This is exactly how we had pictured the Belgian city to be.
