I can’t be the only one? I have two rather risque log lists on my phone with a combined total I will not disclose here. One is dubbed sex innkeeping and the other sexless innkeeping. The prerequisites for one is romantic pursuits and spending an entire slumber with someone sans doing the deed. The other is reserved for those I have slept with. Some names on the list incur dread, nostalgia, anger, face-palmery or a laugh.

It’s true, they exist. Lately, I’ve been so off one-night stands, it’s not even funny. I had sworn myself to celibacy until someone worthwhile and dateable came around. But after scouring my Hinge radius, I’ve come to the realisation that systemising the search for love probably won’t result in success anytime soon. Romantic nihilism and I are on again. And why traditional marketing has a lot to answer for. I’ve grown to really care about where I consume fashion from in recent years thanks to a groundswell of local, artfully-crafted small slow fashion labels. But ask me where my undies were purchased and it’s almost definitely going to be either Cotton On or Target. (Not that there is anything inherently wrong with that). But why do I care so little about my undergarments and so much about what everyone else can see?

There’s a famous page from a book that does the rounds on social media. It acknowledges that perhaps this particular chapter of life “isn’t about love”, it’s just about you.

The real-estate ramifications of love lost. I threw out every trace of my last relationship, aside from one singular polaroid that I couldn’t bear to part with for some inexplicable reason. My close friend kindly took this with her and stored it in a safe space, for a later day, should I ever want it back. While I’d moved into his home, my bedroom at my mother’s place still contained remnants of a past love – a former birthday soft toy that sat tragically on my bed.
