New software has been launched as a direct response to helping the shipping sector meet obligations under the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS). The EU ETC Scheme means that as of 1 January 2024, ship owners, managers and charterers will have to buy emission allowances (EUAs) for every tonne of CO2 emitted - the trouble is a large proportion of companies are not yet sufficiently prepared for this.

The Barmouth, North Wales railway viaduct restoration is being carried out by Alun Griffiths and Network Rail, the train operator. Pennys Group has been contracted to demolish the old viaduct. “Many of the timber elements of the viaduct have decayed significantly over time and a large proportion of the metallic elements have corroded,” Network Rail, which is carrying out the work, said.
